The GTA's affordable housing crisis is at a boiling point. Last Tuesday, dozens of us gathered outside Toronto’s City Hall to call for a fairer budget that maintains city services and invests in transit, climate action, good jobs, and affordable housing. Then, we watched as Mayor Tory approved a budget that will leave thousands of people stranded on housing waitlists while others are pushed out of their communities by skyrocketing prices.
That’s why we need you to join us at our #CodeRed Emergency Community Meeting on March 11.
We are thrilled that our panelists are joining us to share their experience and ideas. Together, they bring decades of experience working on affordable housing across different sectors:
Yogi Acharya , Organizer, Ontario Coalition Against Poverty
City Councillor Ana Bailão, Chair of the Affordable Housing Committee
Dr. Paul Kershaw, Founder, Generation Squeeze
Lis Pimentel, Chair of the Fairbnb Coalition, President of Unite HERE Local 75
Folks from their 20s to 40s are finding it impossible to afford homes or to rent adequately. Whether we are trying to pay off student debt, to save for a down payment on a house, to start a family, or to save for retirement, we’re feeling squeezed.
We need to come together to do something about it -- come hear directly from community leaders and build a plan to tackle the affordable housing crisis. Join us on March 11.
Childcare and tokens will be provided.
