The B.C. government has been scrambling to respond to escalating frustration over B.C.'s housing/affordability crisis.
Specifically, they've convened an emergency summer legislative session to (a) end self-regulation for the real-estate industry and (b) allow Vancouver and [potentially] other municipalities to tax vacant homes.
Those are good ideas, but altogether they're far from the bold action required to meaningfully tackle the affordability squeeze (both renting & owning).
So we're gathering a group together to attend Question Period on July 27th (during the emergency session).
Goal is to send a message that we need bold action, not just tweaks to the status quo. And to call for a policy principle of Homes First (current excesses in the use of local housing as windfall investment vehicles and places to park [often international] capital need to be immediately curbed).
RSVP and I'll send more details, including T-shirt arrangements (we'll get everyone a Code Red - Homes First T-shirt).
Looking for 10-20 people!
(get there by 1:15pm, starts at 1:30, ends at 2:00pm)
