** SUCCESS **
This action was successful!
On Sept. 27 and 28, Union of B.C. Municipalities delegates voted in favour of three resolutions to discourage speculation, flipping, commodity investment and other distortions to local housing markets.
The Cities of Victoria and Nelson are submitted the resolutions at this year's Union of B.C. Municipalities convention, including:
- "A2 - Encouraging the Use of Residential Property for Housing"; "B14 - Restoration of Land Value Tax"; and "B91 - Tax on Vacant & Derelict Residential Properties."
Gen Squeezers sent ~ 200 letters in support of all three motions, which together ask the provincial and federal governments for more action, tools, and resources to ensure housing is used for homes, first.
*You can read the full resolutions and our analysis here.
A big thanks to City of Victoria Councillors Ben Isitt, Jeremy Loveday and Geoff Young, and to the City of Nelson, for drafting and championing these resolutions.
