Meet Kirstie: Our first Survey Draw Winner!
Back in March we launched a national survey for you to tell us more about how we can ease your squeeze in your day-to-day lives, and you gave us some great tips. To tempt you (and acknowledge your squeezed time) we offered a chance to win one of three $250 My Treat Visa. You’ll get to meet all the winners, but first we’d like to introduce you to our winner on the West Coast – Kirstie.

You’ll get to meet all the winners, but first we’d like to introduce you to our winner on the West Coast – Kirstie.

We'll be asking all our winners for tips on how they save money; if you have others please share them in the comments section!

1.      Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am working part-time as a Mental Health worker for the Kettle Friendship Society. I love what I do, I love that there is a possibility to make a difference in someone's life every day that I go to work. This is why I am currently attending Douglas College, where I am in 2nd year of the Psychiatric Nursing Degree! I also have been volunteering at Friends for Life society for the last couple years. I rent an apartment with my boyfriend in Vancouver and we feel the squeeze all the time living in this expensive city! We are always trying to find ways to save money or make extra money on the side.

 2.      How does “the Squeeze” show up for you in your day-to-day life? What excites you about Gen Squeeze?

The squeeze shows up every day when we have to decide where our money for that paycheck should be allocated. We often find ourselves with no money for fun because the bills add up living in this big city! GenSqueeze excites me because it's a way for us to be able to actually move forward with our lives. The dream of owning a house/starting a family starts to look like it could actually happen with the help we receive from the GenSqueeze community and organization! It brings people together to share the tips they have found that helps them and allows others to use those helpful tips!

 3.      What’s the one “ease the squeeze” tip you use that you would like to share with others?

Find ways to use your low money status to your advantage! If you’re a student, find discounted gym passes or bank accounts (or use Gen Squeeze’s Credit Union offer and go to Coast Capital and get the no fee chequing account!). Always keep asking everyone you know for tips. Everyone's got at least one good tip that they can share :)
