The Urban Development Institute (Pacific Region) is a non-partisan and non-profit association that serves as the public voice of the real estate development industry in B.C. They’re committed to partnering with communities, governments, and key stakeholders to create and achieve the vision of balanced, well-planned, and sustainable communities.
We first engaged with UDI Pacific both in the lead up and during our 2016 Building Housing Common Ground event, of which came ten common ground principles for tackling the #CodeRed housing crisis. UDI is proud to support the work of Gen Squeeze in the following principles:
- Principle 6: “Channel Private Investment to Public Benefit,” especially as it concerns the incentivization of more purpose-built rental.
- Principle 7: “Encourage Density, Diversity and Efficiency” to help improve young people’s access to a range of suitable housing options.
- Principle 9: “Go Beyond Housing Policy,” especially as it pertains to linking transportation investments with density.
- Principle 10: “Mobilize Younger Generations” to ensure that young people’s voices are heard and reflected in municipal, provincial and federal housing decisions.
Urban Development Institute is currently supporting our #CodeRed affordability campaign and core operations with a $150,000 contribution (2017/2018). This funding has not been renewed for 2019.
We’re proud to have the support of UDI Pacific! We encourage you to check them out.
