Organizations from across Canada are coming together to call on Federal, Provincial, and Territorial leaders to expand and strengthen the $10-a-day child care system so that all families can have access to quality care doesn't cost a second rent- or mortgage sized payment.

Families who have benefitted so far are celebrating access affordable care for their kids:

“Getting a space for our kindergartner in $10-a-day after-school care felt like winning the lottery,” explained Hugh Patterson. “It has reduced so much stress in our lives.”

For Kathryn Stewart, the savings allowed her family “to move out of our apartment that had issues with mice and mould.”

Jayne Drew emphasized that “$10-a-day child care has given me the confidence to have my first child.” Previously, “the lack of affordable child care was a major factor in our decision to delay having children.”

Michael Côté agrees. “Before the $10-a-day child care I was spending $1,500 a month for daycare fees. My mortgage is $1,400 a month. We have only had one child because there has been no feasible way to have another.”

Clearly $10-a-day child care is a life-changer for parents who can access it. We need governments to stop playing politics with this essential program and commit the funds and political will necessary to scale it up fast and reduce financial hardships facing young families. That means Ottawa must continue to boost funding, and that provinces must fully and efficiently invest the federal child-care transfers they now receive - while also adding their own provincial dollars.

Child Care Now is leading the way in this effort, penning a letter to Federal, Provincial, and Territorial Ministers signed by 94 organizations and leaders from across Canada - including Generation Squeeze.

Help us grow the pressure by telling your MP that you stand behind affordable, high quality child care to support families struggling with rising costs, and to continue to bolster Canada's economy in the face of trade and tariff threats.
